Working from Home Is Here To Stay

If there is one post-Covid-19 trend that seems to remain, it is working from home. Many people have successfully made the switch to remote work and have no complaints. They find it to be very satisfying. However, some people prefer working at the office. If you are wondering what to expect in the future, you have come to the right place. This post takes a close look at the new normal.

Work is slowly moving back to the office. The important question that you need to be considering is how much work would return to the office and the amount of freedom that you would receive. The fact is that there are both upsides and downsides to working from home. This has resulted in a hybrid model taking root.

Hybrid Model

Remote work offers plenty of benefits. However, it does come with its fair share of downsides. This is why adopting a hybrid model is the best way forward. The amount of time spent working at the office and home depends on the industry and nature of your work. It all comes down to how much collaboration is required. Most employers cannot expect employees to work entirely from home or the office.

There needs to be a mix between the two. However, research* shows that the split will lean mostly towards remote work. Thus, employees will spend about 60% to 80% of their time working from home and spend the remainder of their time at the office. It was also found that people that spent most of their time working from home benefitted from the highest level of satisfaction and engagement.

To ensure a hybrid model, optimum productivity needs to be the main focus. Employees need to be allowed to decide what model works best for them while ensuring that the nature of work is also taken into account. There is no denying that in-person work allows for collaboration and is necessary for certain tasks. This is why there is a need to design a work culture that offers the best of both worlds. It should allow employees to perform certain types of tasks from the office and others from the home.

Creative Tasks

Creative tasks are best left for home as they require a great deal of flexibility. Employees need to have the freedom to think freely. Additionally, the ability to better manage constant interruptions at home makes it ideal for creative tasks to be done remotely. But, if there is a strict timeline and need for collaboration, those tasks would be better dealt with at the office.

Tedious Tasks

There are also tedious tasks that need to be considered. These might be better suited for the office as employees would be less likely to be distracted from temptations. They would be more likely to complete these tasks while at the office.

Conclusion

Working from home is here to stay. It is important to keep up with the latest findings. If you are involved in decision-making or are interested in what to expect, you will find a hybrid model to be the best option. Advancements in technology have made it extremely easy to have the right tools in place to support a hybrid model of work.
