If you want to get your business out there and vastly increase your target audience, read on for a list of the top seven local advertising platforms that every business should be utilizing.
Yahoo! Local Listings
Recent studies from ROI Research Inc and Performics indicated that around 20-30% of purchases made at retail stores were influenced by online search results. Let your presence be known with services such as Yahoo! Local Listings where you can promote your business to customers on the search for specific goods or services.
Facebook and Twitter
With over 1.23 billion active monthly users, Facebook is by far one of the most effective ways to advertise. Offering the option of refining your target demographic to include locality, Facebook advertising is a fantastic way to reach local customers. Twitter is also fast emerging as a social media giant and represents huge potential for local advertising. As well as building a following of local clients, you can also retweet the posts of other local businesses (and encourage them to do the same) in order to win more followers.
As Google’s exclusive shopping search engine, Froogle is a great way to target local consumers as they search for location specific retail stores and products. It’s a great way to generate customers, regardless of whether or not your business offers online commerce.
Local online directories
Well known online directories such as the YellowPages and TrueLocal are great ways to up the ante on your local advertising strategy. The public use these websites to actively search for services which means that if your advertisement is eye catching and effective, you could win yourself a significant amount of easy business.
Perhaps the most popular of local advertising platforms, Google AdWords allows you to target local online customers by purchasing pay-per-click ads that pop up when users search a specific area, city or region.
As a web domain registration and hosting company, Dotster offers businesses a comprehensive local web advertising package. Upon signing up you allocate a monthly budget which is then used to promote your ad on all the major search engines. It’s quick, easy and efficient!

Web conferencing in itself is not that new to the market. In the past many companies have used ‘conference calling’ to remotely connect staff and clients. The disadvantage of just calling is that everyone needs to be looking at the same documents at the same time, which does not always happen easily. This is why web conferencing is a much better idea, as people can share documents and collaborative working is made much easier.
Of course there are many providers of web conferencing software, but not all of them provide exactly what you need to be able to remotely connect and share everything you need to. We are very pleased to announce the release of our newly revamped all inclusive web conferencing service, with new and improved features including:
• VOIP – speak to anyone from the comfort of your desk
• Screen sharing – allow others to see a presentation
• Chat – keep the communication going using the built in chat
• File sharing – simple to send files quickly to anyone anywhere
• White board – add a bit of fun into the discussions by using the white board
• Webcam – see who you are talking to, building that trust between you
Using our web conferencing software could not be simpler. Everyone who logs into the web meeting can share their desktop, applications and files with each other, as well as use the white board and chat to collaborate seamlessly. If someone cannot find a document, it takes seconds to transfer over another copy; meaning your meeting is not held up. Some people also like the idea of face-to-face meetings, to see who they are doing business with, it makes them feel more comfortable, so being able to see the other side through web conferencing is an advantage to many.
Meetings can be hard enough to arrange when there are more than 2 people invited. All the diaries need to match up and then there is the travel (not to mention travel and accommodation costs!). If your client is in the USA and your staff are in France, the cost of organizing a face-to-face meeting can quickly mount up. The advantage of web conferencing is that it allows you to meet face-to-face via a screen with those clients at a fraction of the cost.
Our all-inclusive conference room is simple to use for all users running Windows, Linux, Mac or any mobile device. You can chose from free or premium package to suit your business needs. Seamlessly allowing multiple users to share files and screens, enabling meetings to run smoothly and efficiently – a must for any business.

While technology makes it easier to work remotely, as a manager the mere fact of having a team dotted across a number of locations can make life difficult. Fortunately, there are lots of easy ways to manage a remote workforce, no matter how geographically diverse their locations. Try these top five tips to get started…
1. Hold a Regular Virtual Meeting
When you manage workers in an office, it’s easy to stay connected. They deliver reports to your desk, pass you in the hall and drop by your office for performance reviews and progress meetings. Managing a remote workforce requires a similar open door policy, albeit one adapted to recognize the nature of working at home or from another location.
Make it a habit to arrange a virtual meeting with remote workers once a week or once a month. Use a tool like ShowMyPC to make it easy for multiple remote workers to connect at once from various locations. A regular day of the week and time of day will add a sense of structure and offer a forum for offering reassurance, giving feedback and progressing projects.
2. Arrange Conference Calls
If you physically can’t get out to see remote workers at their location, stay connected with a conference call. Use this time to speak either one on one or in small project-based groups or departments. Use this time to talk through recent developments, plan next steps, feedback on work presented, set goals and targets and answer questions. One of the dangers of working remotely is that it’s easy to leave remote workers out of the loop and consider them an annex to the main team rather than an integral part of it. Getting workers to dial into a conference call can help to negate this feeling and ensure that as a manager, you have ready access to any update you need as and when you need to lay your hands on it.
3. Promote Video Conferencing
Encouraging remote workers to communicate by video conference with other team members can help you as a manager to record greater productivity. If remote workers must raise helpdesk tickets or send emails then await a response, valuable time can be lost. However, if you can provide tools such as video conferencing which makes face-to-face communication possible, you’re likely to reduce the sense of isolation, increase productivity and get much more from your team in the process.
4. Provide Top Class Equipment
Your team is only as good as the materials it has to work with. So furnish remote workers with the same quality equipment and resources as those in your office enjoy. That may be a top of the line PDA, a new tablet or a faster laptop or desktop. Even small touches such as supplying good quality noise-cancelling headphones for those who make lots of calls can all help a remote team to perform to the best of their ability.
5. Organize a Yearly Conference
As far as possible make provisions to meet as many remote workers as possible at least once a year. An annual company event such as a conference, a weekend retreat or similar can help to build bridges and encouragement for the following 12 months.
